Introducing Hannah Scarr

Hello fellow theatregoers!

My name is Hannah Scarr and I’m the guest blogger for Live Theatre for the months of February/March 2016. I am very excited to get started!

I’ve just started my first year of Drama and Script Writing at Northumbria University. Honestly I wasn’t aware of the vibrant performing arts venues and community that exists right here in the North East! My dream is ultimately to be a writer, whether in any kind of medium but I would love to write for the theatre or for film.

My first experience of Live Theatre was when I took part in a performative walk that took place from Northumbria University’s City Campus that involved dancing and singing through the streets of Newcastle in giant pink hoodies! This was such a liberating (and very rainy) experience that I knew I wanted to get more involved with Live Theatre!

So rather than writing a huge post about myself (I struggle to find interesting things to say about myself!) I thought that I might just make a list of ten interesting facts about me!  I hope that you enjoy reading my blog posts about Live Theatre and can’t wait to get my teeth into the challenge!

  1. I zip-wired from the Wearmouth Bridge in Newcastle to raise money for the charity.

I zip wired  from the bridge to raise money for the charity 4Louis, a charity that supports parents who have experienced having a stillborn baby. The charity creates memory boxes for parents to remember their babies and strives to support parents when they need it most.

  1. I helped to co-write my first script during my A-Levels.

I helped to write a piece called Divided that revolved around Terry (a character named after my father!) and Lilly as they battle to stay together during the tensions of the 1984 Miner’s Strike. This was an amazing experience because I got to craft fully rounded characters that I came to love so much.

  1. I’ve been swimming with dolphins in Turkey.

This was one of the most calming yet nerve-wracking experiences I’ve ever had! Riding through the water on a dolphin’s back made me feel like some sort of mermaid from my childhood storybooks!

  1. I performed in the 2015 Bar Mock Trial at Newcastle Crown Court (I didn’t realise that Live Theatre was so close!)

This involved acting out a course case in one of the courts and I played the defendant Effie. Being in the box and the witness stand was terrifying but so exciting at the same time because I felt like I was in a Crime drama!

  1. I attended Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from a very young age.

I started attending Rainbows at the age of 6 and left the Guides when I was 17 years old. I have some of my fondest memories from my childhood from these clubs including Guide Camp and Zip Wiring at Broomley Grange!

I hope that you enjoy reading my blog posts!

Thanks for stopping by!
