Introducing our June blogger: Sarah Gonnet

Hello! I’m Sarah Gonnet and I’m Live Theatre’s resident blogger for June. My writing journey began at Live Theatre three years ago when I attended their Introduction to Playwriting course and then the Writer’s Group. Since then I have written a number of short plays and curtain openers for theatres across the North. This year I am taking part in Graeae Theatre’s Write to Play scheme which will see me write two shorts and one full length play over 2016. I’m also a member of Curious Monkey’s Youth Board. Writing this blog feels like returning to the roots of my writing journey something also combined with having my first short play on at Live Theatre last week at their Write it: Mic it night.

Outside of playwriting I have a novel coming out with Burning Eye Books next spring, it tells the story of two outsider artists. My debut poetry collection Voices will be released by Survivors Poetry over the summer.

Writing allows me to follow my obsessions – mental health, gender identity, archaeology, psychological theory, Outsider Art…and as a massive theatre nerd I am looking forward to seeing as many plays as possible over the month and blogging about all of them. It looks like it’s going to be an exciting and varied bunch.
